What could we expect from this great Bodegas Mas Alta del Priorato when producing a wine like Els Pics, with a moderate price, but another great wine. A great wine with the characteristics of the Priory but with the unmistakable stamp of the Mas Alta winery, warm, present and very fine fruit, able to delight every palate.
Els Pics is a powerful but accessible wine, a complex but easy to drink wine, it is a mixture of four grape varieties, essentially Grenache (60%) and Cariñena (25%), with small percentages of Syrah (10%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%); the grapes come from young vineyards, planted in soils of different composition (calcareous-clayey and slate) and with varied orientations; and the aging takes place in cement tanks half the time, and the other half in French oak barrels, of which only 10% are new, and the rest one year (15%), two years old ( 46%) and three years (30%). The wine shines in a glass with an intense cherry color and wakes up with primary aromas and the warmth of a cake of strawberries and plums cooked in the oven; wrapped in the freshness of a fine minerality, notes of licorice are distinguished. Its 15 degrees of alcohol seem to disappear by magic by serving wine in a glass. The palate has a great body, density and power, and as it passes time in the glass is more perfect balance between its good acidity, a pleasant sweetness and a slight bitterness of aromatic plants (thyme) that persists in the end.
